Early Bird Extension
Janet Snow has arranged for an extension to the Early Bird reduced rate for GRAA members
IRF 2006 - GRAA Group Booking reduced fee
For those who are interested in attending the IRF 2006 in Scotland but missed out on the "Early Bird" reduced registration fee will now have a second chance to "catch the boat". More details on the congress can be seen on http://www.int-ranger.net/congress.html
I have negotiated a GRAA Group Booking reduced fee rate. So instead of the 640 pounds (around R 7600.00 + commission, vat etc) you can pay R6650.00 for the primary participant (spouses are at a separate fee) (which includes the commission, vat and foreign exchange control system).
If you are interested in being part of this Group Booking please submit your payment to the GRAA main account (details below) - with a clear reference (e.g. IRF 2006 J Snow Mem no. 687) and a fax or emailed copy of the deposit before 30 November. [This is one proviso - if the exchange rate fluctuates drastically between now and when I make the payment, I might be obliged to alter the amount due - up or down - but I will contact you if that is the case.]
Please contact me if you have any queries or if you want to confirm that your deposit has been received and noted.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at this congress.

IUCN JOINS ALCOA FOUNDATION IN LAUNCHING FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME
20 fellowships offered for conservation and sustainability research Gland, Switzerland, 11 October 2005 (IUCN) - The World Conservation Union (IUCN) has been chosen as one of three leading Sustainability Institutes for the newly launched Alcoa Foundation's Conservation and Sustainability Fellowship Programme.
The Fellowship Programme is designed to provide a non-degree opportunity for qualified mid-career sustainable evelopment practitioners from NGOs to conduct intensive applied research in the field of conservation and sustainability.
In cooperation with the International Institute for Education (IIE), IUCN will assist in reviewing and selecting three to five practitioner fellows per year, for the five years of the program, to conduct research in the following areas:
Experts from the IUCN will be assigned as mentors for the fellows working on these research projects and will also participate in various worldwide networking events.
Academic partners such as the London School of Economics or the University of São Paolo will host the fellows.
"The Alcoa Foundation's Conservation and Sustainability Fellowship Program offers a great opportunity for people with good ideas to take some time to think through their ideas, nurture them to a stage where they can be implemented , and then put them into practice.
IUCN is looking forward to support the fellows in their work and hopes that they will be able to bring new knowledge into the conservation field and stimulate others to conserve," said Jeffrey A. McNeely, IUCN Chief Scientist at the launch of the fellowship programme.
The Alcoa Foundation will support each fellow with a substantial annual stipend plus funding for a yearly meeting of the fellows.
Alcoa is the world's leading producer of primary aluminium, fabricated alumina. Alcoa Foundation actively invests in sources of positive community change as well as supporting national and international organizations to promote Areas of Excellence. By bringing together academic, NGO and business communities, the Fellowship Program will be a "new model of effective private philanthropic action to address urgent problems of global concern".

This certainly brightened up my day I feel a little bit happier!!!!
The Red Head
A man is dining in a fancy restaurant and there is a gorgeous redhead sitting at the next table. He has been checking her out since he sat down, but lacks the nerve to talk with her.
Suddenly she sneezes, and her glass eye comes flying out of its socket towards the man.
He reflexively reaches out, grabs it out of the air, and hands it back. Oh my, I am so sorry, " the woman says as she pops her eye back in place.
"Let me buy your dinner to make it up to you, " she says.
They enjoy a wonderful dinner together, and afterwards they go to the theatre followed by drinks. They talk, they laugh, she shares her deepest dreams and he shares his. She listens.
After paying for everything, she asks him if he would like to come to her place for a nightcap and stay for breakfast.
They had a wonderful, wonderful time.
The next morning, she cooks a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. The guy is amazed! ! Everything had been SO incredible! !!!
"You know, " he said, "you are the perfect woman. Are you this nice to every guy you meet? "
"No, " she replies. . . . . .. . . . "
Wait for it. .
It's coming. .
The suspense is killing you, isn't it?
She says :
"You just happened to catch my eye. "
(oh shut up, I just forward them, I don't write them! )
