Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Field Ranger Day

ezemveloIn celebration of World Ranger Day, the GRAA once again supported Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife (EKZNW) during their annual Field Ranger Day at Mfolozi in late July 2016. Participating rangers represent most of the EKZNW reserves in Kwazulu-Natal.

To build comradery and create a healthy level of competitiveness between different field ranger units a programme of events is put together by EKZNW where rangers pitt their skill across various disciplines. Events include shooting, drilling, assegai throwing, tug of war, soccer and traditional dancing.

Events such as these are incredibly important to ensure that the morale of the field ranger core remains high even when they are working under the extreme pressures of the war against poaching. It is imperative to all conservation efforts that a dedicated, motivated and disciplined ranger corps is maintained. They are our foot soldiers of all conservation efforts.

The GRAA supported the event by sponsoring floating trophies for shooting and drilling as well as individual prizes for the individuals participating in these two events in 2015. The GRAA participated and sponsored these events during the 2016 Field Ranger Day.

Please see below for some photographs from the 2015 event.
