Protected Area Management Effectiveness
In 2015, the GRAA was involved in refining the Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT) which is currently being used in South Africa. The project involved the GRAA analysing the trends of METT score indicators, reporting to DEA on the reliability of METT score data and advising DEA on intervention strategies to improve protected area management effectiveness.
The GRAA visited and audited 60 protected areas across the country and lead a number of workshops. The GRAA also lead training initiatives in the use of the METT-SA Version 3 Tool at North West Parks and Tourism Board and with the DEA itself.
