Providing Equipment
THE CHALLENGE:
59.8% of rangers surveyed across Africa felt that they did not have adequate equipment or amenities to do their jobs.
For example, 50% of rangers did not have access to sufficient boots and equipment, while more than 40% were required to purchase their own boots.
OUR RESPONSE:
With the future of Africa’s wilderness areas in the hands of those with boots on the ground, Jim Green Footwear and the Game Rangers' Association of Africa have joined forces to help address this challenge.
Inadequate equipment can negatively affect ranger morale, safety and wellbeing. As rangers work on the frontlines of conservation, a reliable pair of quality boots is essential for carrying out their daily responsibilities.
Together, Jim Green Footwear and the GRAA designed a boot specifically for rangers. For every 10 pairs of African Ranger Boots sold by Jim Green Footwear, one pair is donated to a ranger through the Boots for Rangers initiative. By the end of 2024, the initiative aimed to have supplied 5,000 pairs of boots to rangers.
